Our Unique Process
We begin your personal assessment with Korr Metabolic Rate Testing™ which allows us to determine your baseline metabolic needs. With this comprehensive data, plus your activity and exercise history, we can design a nutrition program that takes into account your unique metabolism and activity.
Important procedures to follow prior to your Korr Metabolic Rate Test™
The breathing test measures your oxygen consumption rate. It requires a minimum of a 4 hour fast from food, exercise, caffeine, nicotine and beverages other than water.
Metabolic rate, or metabolism, is the rate at which the body expends energy. This is also referred to as the “caloric burn rate”. Knowing metabolic rate is vital for weight loss as well as for determining the proper feeding amounts needed to treat various disease states.
Energy expenditure can be divided into three groups of calories
- Resting Calories – Calories that are burned while the body is at rest. These calories are needed just to maintain life. The majority of all calories burned (about 70-80%) are burned at the resting level.
- Activity Calories – Calories that are burned because of normal daily activities are “Activity Calories”. Normal daily activities such as walking, eating (digesting food), typing, etc. are included in activity calories.
- Exercise Calories – These calories are burned because of exercise.
The sum of all of these groups of calories is the total metabolic rate.

Eating Disorders/Disordered Eating
Before I joined the weight loss program, I wasn’t eating right and did exercising but I felt that was not enough. I also wasn’t very happy with my weight. I didn’t eat breakfast before I came to workout. So I thought about the weight loss program at NutriFormance and I started to join it. I have learned that the weight loss program is not really a “diet” but it helps me to eat anything but in a healthy and nutritious way.
The program works for me as well as I have learned so much about nutrition and weight loss. I have lost almost 12 pounds and 2 percentages off of body fat [in 3 months]. It also helps me to stay on the right track. I still continue to work on my weight loss until I reach my goal in the next spring. After I reach my weight goal, I want to maintain my weight and continue to exercise. I am happy with the program. It also helps me to learn to eat in a healthy way on my own. I thank Emily [Bailey] for her help with my weight loss.
Finally, the most important thing is to eat healthy and stay active. Noel Mangano
Seven years after my first successful weight loss using NutriFormance’s nutrition advice, I returned for a tune-up after a few pounds started creeping back on. In the intervening years they updated the program to include online tracking for you food diary and weekly email feedback from the nutrition counselor. At first I didn’t’ see what I needed to change in my daily habits to start losing weight, but Emily [Bailey] sent very helpful suggestions for tweaking my food intake to better match with my weight loss goal. By the fourth week, I settled into some new norms, and I started to see a regular loss of about 1-2 pounds each week. I’ve reached my goal and I’m still tracking online just to see how a maintenance food plan compares to a weight loss food plan. It’s been great! - Mary Santen
I went to see Emily because I had trained and ran 8 marathons – but still wasn’t hitting my time goal to qualify for Boston. I was running some serious mileage, doing all the right things with speed work and tempo runs – following all of the rules, but not hitting my goal. I could tell that my fueling plan was out of whack – I was finishing every race completely struggling, and hitting the wall seemed to be inevitable. I was also feeling extremely tired during my busy work weeks while I was in the midst of training, hitting a bad mid-afternoon slump every day. Determined to keep working toward both my fitness goals and marathon goals, I decided to sign up for some sessions with Emily. She was patient with me and asked me all of the right questions – but let me experiment and find the right methods for me, both to keep my energy high during the day and to help me think differently and change my habits leading up to races so I was fueled correctly. The questions she asked me and the advice she gave me led me to understand my own body and to listen to it much more closely when it sends me signals about hunger and dehydration. Basically – I was underestimating by A LOT how much I was burning during workouts, and wasn’t fueling enough to replace what I’d lost – both in quantity and in quality. Over the past year, my eating habits have changed a lot; while weight loss wasn’t my goal, I’ve seen a change in my body mass distribution and also in the amount of strength and energy I have during the day and when I’m racing. I’m still working toward that Boston qualifying goal…but I know that what Emily has taught me will help me get there much faster than my old bad habits!
The Performance Prep Program has helped me incredibly both personally and professionally. I feel that I am more able to relate to my clients feelings with more compassion now that I understand what they go through when making a change in their life. I also feel that they are sharing their feelings more knowing that I am going through the same process. Physically my bloated stomach aches are almost gone. I am less moody at night and definitely less tired at night. PMS didn’t happen this month Overall it has been an incredible experience so far and definitely on the road to a long term life changing experience.
