Before joining NutriFormance and Athletic Republic, Chico completed his undergraduate studies at Truman State University earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science.  During this time, Chico directed a strength and conditioning class for 15-20 athletes weekly over the period of one summer. Chico interned at Fitness Quest 10 with Todd Durkin in San Diego, California.  His responsibilities included instructing and assisting with group fitness classes, one-on-one training sessions with athletes, as well as, group training sessions with NFL athletes improving their strength and agility.  While at Truman State, Chico was a scholar athlete for the Varsity football team, also achieving acknowledgement on the Dean’s list.  While playing football, Chico achieved First Team All-Conference as a Tight End as well as, Third Team All American.

In high school Chico started on the Varsity football team for three years.  He was named All-League on both offense and defense his senior season in football while leading his team as a captain.  Chico was also named defensive most valuable player of his high school football team, both his junior and senior football season.   In addition, Chico also played basketball, baseball, and participated in track and field.
